INEC cancels election results of Doguwa’s constituency 

Following the arrest and detention of the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives in Kano, Alhassan Ado  Doguwa, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the results declaring him the winner of Doguwa/Tundunwada Federal Constituency would be canceled because it was announced under duress.

Doguwa was arrested in connection with a suspected case of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and inciting disturbance.

The commission revealed this while presenting the list of winners via its Twitter handle.

It would be recalled that Section 65 of the Electoral Act gives the commission the power to void results declared under duress.

Doguwa was on Tuesday arrested at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport for culpable homicide and arson, he was later detained at a correctional facility in Kano State.

However, on Monday a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Muhammad Yunusa granted bail to Doguwa to the tune of N500 million and two reliable sureties in like sum.

The court also restrained him from going to his constituents on the day of the gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections of March 11, 2023.
