How stowaway died on KLM flight from Lagos
Operators of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, have given possible explanations how a stowaway who was found in the wheel well of one of its Boeing 777 aircrafts died.
The aircraft according to reports originated from Lagos, Nigeria and the body of the victim was discovered in the registered aircraft PH-BQM on Monday.

Although the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death of the individual is yet unknown as investigation has commenced.
A spokesperson of the airline explained stowaways in wheel wells of aircraft often face extreme temperatures that can drop to as low as minus fifty degrees during longer flights making survival almost impossible, and hypothermia is likely to be a contributing factor in this case.
He said, “Sometimes they survive, but most of the time it goes wrong given the sharp drop in temperature. On longer flights, temperatures can go down to minus fifty degrees, impossible to survive.”
Despite the glaring danger and risk to life some stowaways still attempt to use this method to travel without proper documentation or authorisation, on the quest of a better life or escaping difficult situations in their home countries.
Such a case can be prevented in airports with increased security measures and inspections of aircraft before departure.
In addition, airline operators and aviation authorities should regularly review and update their security protocols to ensure the safety and security of passengers and crew onboard.
