Indomie Noodles: Expect more cancer cases in children – NICRAT raises concerns

The National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) has expressed concern about the alleged presence of a carcinogenic compound, Ethylyne Oxide, in Indomie Instant Noodles ‘Special Chicken Flavour’.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Director-General of NICRAT, Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, warned that if some brands of Indomie noodles contain Ethylyne Oxide, Nigerians should expect an increase in various forms of cancer in the months or years ahead, depending on how long people have consumed that brand.

Prof. Aliyu stated that it is even more concerning that Nigerians should expect an increase in cancer cases among children because Indomie noodles are popular among most Nigerian children.

He went on to say that while NICRAT commends the prompt intervention of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in carrying out a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the magnitude of the situation, Ethylyne Oxide has grave consequences for human health, especially when consumed.

The Director-General assured Nigerians that NICRAT will collaborate with NAFDAC to ensure the safety and protection of Nigerians from cancer-causing agents.

He also pledged the institute’s commitment to taking cancer prevention, research, and treatment to the next level by ensuring that Nigerians are safe from all forms of cancer.
