El-Rufai revokes property rights of former governor Makarfi

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has revoked the right of occupancy of nine properties belonging to the former governor of the state, Ahmed Makarfi.

These properties have also been marked for demolition. The notice of revocation and withdrawal of the right of occupancy was served to the officials of the affected properties on Thursday in Kaduna.

The notice, signed by Mahmud Aminu, registrar of Kaduna Geographical Information Service (KADGIS), was addressed to Ibrahim Makarfi, director of Cane Properties, Plot 11, Murtala Square, Doka, on Thursday, May 18.

The properties affected include five plots of land in Mogadishu, three plots on Kwato Road, and one plot at Doka, all within the Kaduna metropolis.

Furthermore, it has come to light that El-Rufai’s administration has uncovered 40 houses owned by Makarfi in Kaduna and Dubai, which they intend to seize.

El-Rufai alleges that Makarfi, who has never been involved in business, acquired these properties through fraudulent means.

“I have been directed to inform you that His Excellency, Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has, in the exercise of his powers conferred by section 28 (5) (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act 1978, revoked the right of occupancy (RO) of nine properties owned by Ahmed Makarfi within the state.”

Additionally, the state government plans to demolish some facilities belonging to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) in Zaria, as well as a controversial villa in Kaduna that has been a subject of litigation since El-Rufai’s first term.

This development occurs less than 11 days before the end of El-Rufai’s tenure in office.
