Troops arrest village chief, informants in Kaduna banditry sweep
Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano
Soldiers raided the Janjala community in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State and arrested the Madaki of Janjala, Malam Ibrahim Aliyu, and 13 suspected bandits’ informants in the area.
The troops, who arrived in eight Hilux vans and motorcycles, stopped at Kagarko town to pick up some suspects before driving to the Janjala community, located about three kilometres away from Kagarko.
According to an anonymous source who spoke with our reporter over the phone, the soldiers picked up the suspects from some houses in Janjala after two other suspects in Kagarko town led them there.
Yahuza Suleiman, a resident of Janjala, also disclosed that the village chief was picked up and taken to Kaduna over reported cases of abduction in the community.
Suleiman further stated that since the soldiers picked up the Madaki and some suspects, his phone number had not been connecting. However, someone he was able to communicate with this morning told him that the Madaki was being questioned in Kaduna about the kidnap incidents in Janjala.
The Janjala community and some neighbouring villages in the area have been facing incessant attacks by bandits for months, with residents being kidnapped and some killed.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command regarding the arrest by the troops.
