Story from Vivian DANIEL, Abuja

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has officially declared Monday, June 12, 2023, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s Democracy Day.

Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, made the declaration while extending her heartfelt appreciation to all Nigerians on this significant occasion.

She stated, “Nigeria’s democratic journey, much like that of many other nations, has encountered both challenges and triumphs. However, the ship of the State, its institutions, and, most importantly, the Nigerian people have remained unwavering in their commitment to the principles of democratic governance.”

“On this memorable occasion, Nigerians and friends of Nigeria are cordially invited to reflect upon the progress that has been achieved, celebrate the milestones covered, and anticipate a brighter future for the country’s democracy,” she added.

The permanent secretary concluded by wishing all Nigerians a joyous celebration of Democracy Day.
