Saudi Court announces June 28 as Eid-el-Kabir

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has announced Wednesday, June 28, 2023 as the first day of Eid-el-Kabir.

A satement issued by the court said the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah was confirmed at the Tamir Observatory, near Riyadh.

The Supreme Court announced that, “The crescent moon that signals the start of Islamic month Dhul Hijjah was spotted in Saudi Arabia on Sunday night.”

The last month in the Islamic Hijrah calendar, therefore, begins on Monday, June 19.

The day of Arafah, considered the holiest in Islam will be on Tuesday, June 27.

The Islamic festival commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail on Allah’s command.
