ABU students showcase cultural heritage through annual Dubar celebration

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, brought a vibrant tapestry of cultures to life on the 17th of August, 2023, as they hosted the much-anticipated annual Dubar ceremony.
The event, held at the university’s sprawling grounds, saw students donning an array of traditional attire representing the diverse states and cultures of Nigeria.
The Dubar, a celebration deeply rooted in Nigerian culture, has become a cherished tradition at ABU Zaria. This year’s event highlighted the university’s commitment to unity in diversity and provided a platform for students to proudly showcase their heritage.
Draped in exquisite garments, students paraded the grounds with grace and enthusiasm, each ensemble telling a unique story of their respective culture.
From the vibrant hues of the Yoruba attire to the intricate patterns of Igbo clothing, the event was a true feast for the eyes.

Students from the Hausa, Fulani, Ibibio, and many other ethnic groups joined in, creating a colorful mosaic of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
In his opening remarks, the SRC President emphasized the importance of embracing cultural diversity and fostering a sense of unity among students.
“The Dubar ceremony is not just a showcase of our traditions, but a celebration of our shared identity as Nigerians,” he said to the captivating audience.
The Dubar featured lively performances, including traditional dances, music, and drama, which further illuminated the vibrancy and uniqueness of each culture.
