APC warns members using social media to express interest in Dr Geidam’s Yobe East Senatorial seat

Story from Sa’adatu Maina, Damaturu

The All progressives Congress (APC), Yobe State chapter, has frowned at the attitudes of some party members who displayed photographs of some members on social media urging them to contest or expressing their support to candidates vying for the Yobe East Senatorial seat which is about to be vacated by Senator Ibrahim Gaidam.

This is contained in a statement signed by the party’s secretary, Alhaji Abubakar S. Bakabe and made available to newsmen in Damaturu.

According to the statement, the actions of the party members will polarise and put the unity of the party in jeopardy as the party hasn’t called for nomination.

The party secretary said, “It is because of the foregoing, the party wishes to warn members, either those with the intentions to contest or their supporters to desist
from using the social media to advertise themselves or show support to any person.

“For the avoidance of doubt the party will not hesitate to sanction any member/members that engaged in such illicit acts capable of
destabilising the party in the state.

“However the party also wishes to reiterate that its main focus now is the local government elections not the senatorial seat which the incumbent is yet to vacate and hasn’t yet been sworn in as Minister,” said Bakabe.

The Yobe APC executive further urged all members
to remain calm and wait for further instructions.
