FG appoints new CMDs in federal hospitals nationwide
The Federal Government has appointed 11 new Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for various federal medical facilities nationwide.
The announcement was made in a press statement signed by Patricia Deworitshe, the Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), and shared with News Point Nigeria.

According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Kacholom Daju, presented letters of appointment to the newly appointed CMDs during a ceremony in Abuja. These appointments will be effective from August 1, 2023, for an initial four-year tenure.
The newly appointed CMDs are as follows: Prof Nyandanti Yakub Wilberforce for the Federal Medical Centre in Hong, Adamawa State; Prof Issa Baba Awoye for the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Buddo-Egba, Kwara State; Dr Umar Faruk Abdumajid for the FMC in Daura, Katsina State; Dr Muhammad Shittu Adamu for FMC in Wase, Plateau State; Prof Shuaibu Jauro Yahya for FMC in Mubi, Adamawa State; Dr Mercy Anugwu for FMC in Onitsha, Anambra State; Prof Auwalu Sani Salihu for FNPH in Dawanau, Kano State; Prof Rufai Ahmed as the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria.
The remaining appointees are Prof Mangwa Kortar for FMC in Makurdi, Benue State; Prof Robinson Chukwudi Onoh for Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State; and Dr Nurudeen Isa for the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Dala, Kano State.
During the presentation, Daju encouraged the new CMDs to collaborate with healthcare workers and stakeholders, working together as a team to enhance the quality of healthcare services. She emphasized the importance of providing a conducive work environment and infrastructure to deliver high-standard healthcare.
Daju expressed confidence in the appointed CMDs and highlighted that their performance will determine the possibility of tenure renewal. She assured them of the ministry’s support and commitment to providing necessary resources to meet the expected hospital standards.
In response, Dr. Anugwu, speaking on behalf of the newly appointed directors, expressed sincere appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Health for bestowing upon them this great responsibility. Dr. Anugwu assured that they would exert their utmost efforts to improve the welfare of the people and justify the trust placed in them by both the President and the Ministry.
“We are fully committed to moving the healthcare system in our facilities forward,” Dr. Anugwu stated emphatically. “We will leverage our skills and years of experience to ensure that our patients receive the highest standard of care. Rest assured, we will not rest until we fulfill the vision of Mr. President and deliver the best healthcare possible. We will not disappoint you.”
Dr. Anugwu concluded by expressing gratitude once again and expressing confidence in the collaborative efforts of the new CMDs and their teams to bring about positive changes in the healthcare sector.
