The tale of Chukuba town, a tranquil hamlet nestled within the Shiroro local government area of Niger State, Nigeria, is wrapped with chilling suspense and daring resilience after making headlines recently for being the death bed of more than 38 Nigerian soldiers ambushed and brutally murdered by marauding bandits.
Neptune Prime‘s Hamzat Ibrahim Abaga surveyed this once peaceful settlement and a safe haven for its inhabitants which has now become a hotbed of festering crimes, and banditry with recorded incidents of deaths, kidnappings, robbery, and rape among many others.
Chukuba, a charming village nestled in the scenic Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, is a vibrant community in the northern region of Nigeria. This community, with its headquarters in the town of Kuta, spans an expansive area of 5,015 square kilometres (1,936 sq mi) and is home to approximately 235,404 residents, as recorded in the 2006 census.
On 14 August 2023, ruthless insurgents, notorious for their ominous moniker as “bandits” launched a malevolent assault that crashed a formidable military aircraft and killed 38 Nigerian soldiers in the haunting shadows of Chukuba village.
Within the Shiroro local government, Chukuba stands proud among 15 political wards, each contributing its unique characteristics to the tapestry of this diverse area. From the bustling communities of Allawa, Bangajiya, and Bassa/Kukoki, to the tranquil havens of Egwa/Gwada, Erena, and Galkogo, Chukuba fosters a sense of unity and coexistence.
