Contractors express concerns as insecurity delays Kano-Kaduna rail project

Contractors working on the Kano-Kaduna rail project have voiced their concerns about the progress of construction, citing insecurity as a major challenge.

They revealed that only 22.6% of the project has been completed so far.

During an inspection of the site in Kaduna State, Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, urged the contractors to review the metal clips used to secure the rail track in order to deter vandalism and theft.

Alkali stated, “Although this project has faced security challenges, we are committed to delivering it within the shortest possible time.”

The project, awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) in 2021, has experienced setbacks due to ongoing security issues.

The contractors have requested collaboration with the military to ensure the safety of their staff and the project’s progress.

Despite these obstacles, the minister assured Nigerians that the government remains dedicated to completing the Kano-Kaduna rail project as soon as possible.
