Gunmen kidnap Major-General in Imo

A retired Major-General identified as Maj Gen RC Duru (rtd) has been abducted in Imo State, Nigeria’s South-East region.

The incident occurred over the weekend in the Orji General area of Owerri North Local Government Area in Imo State.

According to reports, the Major-General was driving alone in a black Mercedes Benz ML jeep when he was ambushed by gunmen.

“A group of four individuals in a Toyota Sienna kidnapped him,” a reliable source stated.

The kidnappers also took his vehicle, and authorities were notified. His phone, registered under the number 08033567459, was traced to Mba Itoli in Imo State before being switched off.

Efforts are currently underway to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe return of the retired General. Anyone with relevant information is urged to discreetly contact the authorities to expedite the rescue mission.

Maj Gen Duru is a notable member of the 33rd Regular and National Defense College (NDC 18).

The security situation in the South-East has significantly deteriorated, with a surge in armed attacks in recent times. Both Anambra and Imo states have witnessed a number of deadly attacks within the region.

Government officials, facilities, and security personnel, including the military, have become targets of these gunmen.

While the Nigerian government has accused the pro-Biafra group, IPOB, of being responsible for the attacks, the group has consistently denied any involvement.
