Tribunal nullifies LP’s victory in Eti-Osa, orders rerun between Banky W, Attah, others

The parliamentary election petitions tribunal has made a decision to nullify the victory of Thaddeus Attah from the Labour Party in the House of Representatives election for Eti-Osa federal constituency.

The tribunal also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 32 polling units, agreeing with Banky W and Obanikoro’s claims that elections did not take place in around 40 polling units.

Previously, INEC had declared Thaddeus Attah as the winner with 24,075 votes, surpassing Banky Wellington of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 18,666 votes, and Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 16,901 votes.

Banky W, seeing the tribunal’s ruling as a potential comeback in his political career, expressed optimism in a tweet, saying, “It is possible. Still.”

The spokesperson for the Labour Party in Lagos, Olubunmi Adesanya, confirmed the tribunal’s decision. She stated that two out of the three judges ruled in favor of a supplementary election, while the third judge proposed dismissing the case. The party awaits legal advice before taking further action.
