Kano Govt shuts down clinic for having only two staff
The Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has shut down Choice Clinic, a private clinic operating with only two staff members – a nurse and a cleaner.
This action comes shortly after the closure of Reach Clinic for violating regulations and standard operating guidelines.
Speaking about the closure, Professor Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, the Director General of PHIMA, stated that Choice Clinic was involved in a dispute with another clinic within the same building, “which they were operating illegally”. As a result, their registration was canceled, and they were instructed to find a new location anywhere in the state for their centers to reopen after assessment and registration by PHIMA.

The clinic, located in Rijiyar Zaki, was eventually sealed off after initially delaying the closure due to a woman being hospitalized and undergoing surgery.
However, their operation theatre was closed. Despite being given a two-week notice to cease operations, Choice Clinic failed to comply with the directive.
Professor Ahmad explained that “the decision to close the clinic was due to the lack of essential medical staff, including a medical doctor and pharmacist. With only a nurse and a cleaner as employees, the clinic was unable to meet the necessary requirements for delivering healthcare services”.
