Kano State-sponsored mass wedding suffers setback as couples test positive for HIV, pregnancy, others

Intending couples who were slated to participate in a state-sponsored mass wedding in Kano State have tested positive for HIV, pregnancy, sickle cell, and Hepatitis B, according to the spokesperson of the Hisbah Board in Kano State, Lawan Fagge.

The intending couples were subjected to pre-marital test screenings as part of the criteria for participation in the mass wedding.

Lawan informed the public that an interim report from the Ministry of Health revealed that around 40 males and females tested positive for Hepatitis B, while some others had sickle cell and HIV carriers.

The couples will be counseled and given medication, and if they cope with the regimen, they may be considered in the future.
