NLC, TUC threaten national strike following assault on Joe Ajaero

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued a strike notice to the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), slated for November 8, 2023.

This follows an attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero and other union leaders in Imo State on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Friday, the unions presented the government with a six-point demand, which includes the immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State and Area Commander, among other officials, for their alleged complicity in the attack.

Additionally, the unions have demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the attack, as well as compensation for the victims.

The unions have further demanded a public apology from the Imo State Government and the Inspector-General of Police. They have also requested a guarantee that such an attack will never happen again.

The unions threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the government fails to meet their demands within the next five days.
