How a 23-year-old man in Kwara hacked his father to death with a cutlass

A 23-year-old man named Saidi has been brought before a Kwara Magistrates Court in Ilorin, the state capital, for the alleged murder of his father, Chief Musa. Saidi, who is accused of hacking his father, the Elemosho of Shareland in Ifelodun Local Government of Kwara State, to death, reportedly claimed that his father constantly cursed him.

The suspect was alleged to have attacked his father, who was the traditional chief in Share, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Council in the state, with a machete over the alleged curses.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), Saidi stated that his father was causing him without any reason while sitting in the sitting room. Reportedly, his annoyance led him to attack his father with a cutlass on the head repeatedly until he died. He later fled to a mountain in Share after the incident.

Sergeant Abdullah Sanni, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the case was not ordinarily bailable due to its gravity as a culpable homicide. Consequently, he urged the court to remand the defendant in a Correctional facility.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Alhaji Mohammed Dasuki, ruled in favor of the prosecution, ordering Saidi’s remand until the next adjourned date on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

The case continues to unfold in the legal process.
