Israel ignores ICJ ruling, continues attacks on Gaza, kills 174 Palestinians

Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza have resulted in staggering casualties, in clear disregard of the International Court of Justice’s recent ruling.

Amid the ICJ’s order for Israel to refrain from acts of genocide in Gaza, including the killing of Palestinians and inflicting severe mental harm, Gaza’s Health Ministry reports an additional 174 fatalities and 310 injuries.

The court had outlined directives for Israel, emphasizing the need to prevent and punish the incitement of genocide, as well as institute measures to caution its military. Furthermore, the ICJ had insisted on facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid and essential services into Gaza to aid civilians.

To date, Gaza’s health authorities have confirmed the deaths of 26,257 Palestinians, with approximately 65,000 sustaining injuries since October 7. In contrast, the death toll in Israel from attacks by Hamas stands at 1,139.

Prior to the ICJ ruling, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had firmly expressed his refusal to adhere to the court’s order, asserting his determination to proceed with their actions unabated. “No one will stop us — not The Hague, not the Axis of Evil, and no one else,” he declared on January 14, referring to Iran-aligned “axis of resistance” groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.

In response to the Friday ruling by the ICJ, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, dismissively wrote, “Hague shmague,” hinting at a derisive attitude toward the ICJ’s decision.

Israel’s blatant disregard of the ICJ’s ruling, coupled with the escalating casualties in Gaza, signifies a critical and concerning escalation of the situation.
