Boat carrying 100 passengers, merchandise sinks in Niger river
Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has reported a boat mishap in Borgu Local Government area of the state, involving a vessel with approximately 100 passengers on board.
The agency’s Director-General, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Minna on Monday.
The mishap occurred on a Monday afternoon, when the boat was traveling from Dugga Mashaya in Dugga ward, en route to Wara market in Kebbi State.

The boat was ferrying both passengers and merchandise, including goods, grains, and other valuable items.
At present, the agency is unable to confirm the number of casualties and survivors.
Search and rescue efforts are underway, conducted by local divers, agency desk officers, and officials from the local government.
