Emefiele pleads not guilty to new charges, gets permission to travel
Former Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has pleaded not guilty to a twenty-count amended charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday.
The charges against him include alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, and procurement fraud.

Despite being on bail, Mr. Emefiele was granted permission by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court to travel outside the FCT, but with the restriction of not leaving the country.
The prosecution’s counsel did not oppose his continued bail, and the trial judge, Justice Muazu, granted the request for bail, scheduling the continuation of the trial for February 12 and 13.
Initially, in August 2023, the Federal Government had filed a six-count charge of alleged fraudulent procurement against Emefiele since his suspension from office as CBN governor.
