FUDECO empowers Borno pastoralists with Solar Borehole and livelihood Support 

In a significant step towards rebuilding lives, FUDECO’s Borno State Chapter delivered a vital solar water borehole to pastoralists and their host community in Jere Local Government Area on December 30, 2023.

This marks the completion of the first of two boreholes, part of a comprehensive initiative aiming to restore the livelihoods of 500 pastoralists and enhance their resilience to climate change.

FUDECO’s commitment extends beyond water access, encompassing various aspects crucial for rebuilding sustainable communities.  As part of this project, FUDECO has provided animals and chickens, established farms, planted fruit trees, and is actively supporting the education of the pastoralists’ children.

These measures address the devastating impact of insurgency and climate change, offering a holistic approach to community restoration.  The pastoralists, who have faced the decimation of their livestock and the harsh effects of climate change, currently survive on menial jobs, often without proper shelter or income.

FUDECO’s intervention, backed by the generosity of Pawanka Fund RSF Social Finance, is met with gratitude from the communities involved.  In a broader effort towards permanent resettlement, FUDECO has previously secured land for 250 internally displaced persons (IDPs), although this is separate from the current project.

The event, attended by community members, leaders, and distinguished guests, underscores the collaborative spirit driving positive change in the region.
