Kidnapper pretends to be trash collector, hides 8-year-old girl in a bag
A suspected kidnapper, who posed as a trash collector, has been apprehended in Akure, the capital of Ondo state, for the alleged abduction of an 8-year-old girl.
The perpetrator kidnapped the victim by reportedly using a charm and then placed her in a sack. It was gathered that fortune favoured the suspect when the cries of the victim drew the attention of her grandmother, who raised the alarm.
Addressing the press in Akure, the state commander of the state security outfit, codenamed Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, relayed that the suspected kidnapper struck the little girl with a charm and promptly stowed her away in a sack before attempting to flee, but was apprehended in the act.

Adeleye stated that “the suspect feigned to be a scavenger collecting debris, but fortunately, the grandmother of the child heard the girl’s cry. Upon investigation, we ascertained that he is indeed a kidnapper and has been engaged in this illicit trade for some time.
The suspect attacked them with various objects, including a burning firewood he seized from a nearby woman cooking, but they managed to swiftly alert Amotekun operatives, leading to his arrest.”
The father of the victim, Bose James, recounted, “I was outside, washing my clothes and my mother was inside watching television. My little daughter, who is 8 years old, came out, saying she wanted to use the toilet. Her continuous cries drew my mother’s attention, who went to the backyard and confirmed that a person whom we mistook for a scavenger had kidnapped and concealed her inside a sack.
“It was my mother’s shout for help that made me go to check what was happening, and before I could reach there, he had struck her with a heavy wood on her chest while she was struggling to rescue my child from him.”
James commended the state Amotekun for their prompt response, which, in his words, rescued them from the kidnapper.
The state commander reiterated an appeal to guardians and parents to closely monitor their children while playing.
He underscored the necessity for the public to be vigilant and cautious, as the operations of these individuals affect not only children, but adults as well.
