Reps seek sanctions for Appeal Court justices over removal of Plateau lawmakers
The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives is calling for the sanction of Appeal Court justices involved in the removal of Plateau lawmakers.
Honourable Chinda Kingsley, the Minority Leader, emphasized the need for reprimanding the justices who handled the case, aiming to deter other judges from following a similar path in the future.
In November 2023, the Court of Appeal in Abuja sacked all 16 members of the PDP in the Plateau State House of Assembly, citing pre-election matters, alleged disobedience of court orders, and lack of political structure.
The decision also affected four PDP members of the House of Representatives and two senators from the state.
Kingsley extended congratulations to opposition parties for the Supreme Court’s judgment that reinstated and upheld the victories of opposition governors in various states.
Notable among them are Dr. Alex Otti of Abia, Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sen. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, and Mr. Lawal Daudu of Zamfara State.

The Minority Leader applauded the Supreme Court Justices for safeguarding the sanctity of the people’s votes and expressed that these decisions renewed Nigerians’ faith in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
The caucus highlighted the necessity of addressing the decisions of the Court of Appeal regarding State Houses of Assembly and National Assembly elections in Plateau, emphasizing the questionable grounds for the removal of several PDP legislators. The call for sanctions against the justices underscores the caucus’s commitment to upholding justice and deterring potential miscarriages of justice in the future.
