Yobe students express excitement as memorisation of Holy Qur’an begins in public schools (Photos)

Jubilation sweeps Yobe communities as students in secondary and primary schools across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State begin learning the Holy Qur’an to enhance their understanding of their religion.
The initiative, recently introduced by the Yobe State Government, addresses concerns from parents regarding their wards’ insufficient Islamic knowledge.
In an effort to gauge the initiative’s acceptance, Neptune Prime visited schools across the three zones of the state, while students, like those at Government Day Secondary School Potiskum, express excitement as they immerse themselves in Qur’anic studies.
Muhammad Abubakar, an SS2 student, shares his enthusiasm, stating, “The teaching of Qur’anic classes is intriguing, and I am elated to be gaining profound knowledge about my religion.” He urges the Yobe State Government to maintain the momentum.
Abdallah Adam Muhammad, another student, finds the classes interesting, he appreciated the opportunity to combine both Western and Islamic education, while noting a significant understanding of the Quran, emphasizing its positive impact.
Neptune Prime also observes the elation among students at Fika Government Secondary School Potiskum and Government Science Technical College Potiskum.
A visit to Jakusko, a local government in Yobe North, reveals unprecedented excitement among students, who express gratitude for their first-time engagement in Qur’an learning and memorisation.

Meanwhile, students at Government Girls Unity College and Government Secondary schools, both in Damaturu showcase unprecedented joy during their classes.
Aisha Muhammad, an SS3 student, acknowledges her enriched understanding of the Holy Qur’an, despite graduating soon.
On his part, Sheikh Khalid Yakub, an Islamic scholar in Yobe, commended the Yobe State Government over the long-overdue initiative, emphasizing its role in enhancing students’ religious knowledge, while urging other states to follow suit.
