Gombe varsity student, Hajara Dan’azumi, wins Quranic recitation competition in Jordan

A young girl from Gombe State, Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi, has emerged the overall winner in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid category, surpassing participants from 39 countries during the International Female Quranic Recitation Competition in the Kingdom of Jordan.

Hajara Ibrahim, a student of Botany in her 200 level at Gombe State University and hailing from Abubakar Siddiq Islamiyya, was chosen to represent Nigeria at the 18th Edition of the Hashemite Jordan International Qur’anic Competition for Females, where she emerged as the overall winner in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid category, surpassing participants from 39 countries.

During the competition held from February 17th to 22nd, 2024, Hajara achieved an impressive score of 99.5, securing her well-deserved victory in the prestigious competition organised annually by the Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places of Jordan.

The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has congratulated Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi for the remarkable success.

Governor Yahaya extended his heartfelt congratulations to Hajara, her family, and mentors, commending her dedication and commitment to mastering the Qur’an. He expressed confidence that her accomplishment would serve as a source of inspiration for many others in Gombe and beyond.

Emphasising the significance of nurturing and supporting the educational endeavors of young individuals, especially in the realm of religious studies, the Governor highlighted the pivotal role such pursuits play in shaping character and contributing to societal development.

“I am deeply proud of our daughter’s exceptional achievement on the global stage. Hajara’s triumph exemplifies the vibrant academic heritage of Gombe State. Her victory brings pride not just to us in Gombe, but to Nigeria as a whole. I am convinced that this feat will inspire numerous others, particularly our young girls”, the Governor remarked.

He added, “Our commitment to promoting the educational journey of young individuals, particularly in the realm of religious studies, remains unwavering. We recognize its pivotal role in moulding character and fostering societal advancement. Gombe is known for excellence, and we shall continue to identify with those who promote the good image of Gombe to the world. Hajara is one of such people, and we are proud to celebrate her,” he said.

As Hajara returns to Nigeria in days to come, Governor Inuwa Yahaya looks forward to receiving her in his office, saying her presence will serve as both a motivation for sustained efforts and an encouragement for others to follow her footsteps in striving for excellence in their various endeavors, while emphasizing the importance of recognizing and celebrating outstanding achievements in the state.
