Gov. Buni commiserates with victims of Gurjaje attack, Yobe varsity inferno

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has commiserated with the victims of Gurjaje community attack students and management of the Yobe State University over the recent fire outbreak in the female hostel block.

The Governor vowed to arrest attackers who burnt valuables in Gurjaje, Fika Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

Recall that over 1,000 persons have been displaced and their houses and other valuables were burnt down by suspected herdsmen in a reprisal attack.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, Governor Buni vowed that his administration would not rest in pursuing the attackers, adding that “they will be pursued and defeated by the grace of God.”

In a statement by his spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, the Governor said security measures have been up scaled, and currently yielding positive results.

“The government in collaboration with security agencies and vigilante groups, has taken more measures to ensure peace and security in the area.”

The governor has equally directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to the victims of the attack.

While describing the incident as unfortunate and sad, Buni appreciated God that no life was lost in the fire incident.

“We remain grateful that in spite of the huge fire that razed down the hostel completely, no life was lost. SEMA is hereby directed to provide food, clothing, and beddings while the government looks for alternative accommodation for the female students.”
