Rare outbreak of tornadoes leaves 2 dead in Central US
A rare and devastating spate of tornadoes has swept through parts of Oklahoma and nearby Great Plains states, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming at least two lives, including that of a four-month-old child, in the town of Holdenville, Oklahoma.
After 78 tornadoes were reported on Friday, mainly in Nebraska and Iowa, another weather system on Saturday brought 35 tornado reports from northern Texas to Missouri, according to the National Weather Service.
Videos and images shared on social media en depict widespread devastation in the small town of Sulphur, Oklahoma, with scores of buildings flattened, vehicles overturned, and trees stripped of branches and leaves.

Rescue crews are conducting searches house to house and vehicle to vehicle in Sulphur, while the Murray County sheriff’s office issued a warning advising people not to come to the area unless they are first responders.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has declared a 30-day state of emergency to facilitate aid to the 12 hardest-hit counties, as tens of thousands of homes in Texas and Oklahoma remain without power.
The region is no stranger to tornadoes, but the occurrence of separate major outbreaks on consecutive days is exceedingly rare, meteorologists noted.
