Bandits are recruiting youths into crime for as low as N500 – Governor Radda
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina state has revealed that bandits are enticing young people into criminal activities for as little as N500. He made this revelation during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, citing poverty as a major driver of banditry in the country.
According to Governor Radda, poverty has led to the recruitment of youths as logistical support for bandits, with small sums of money persuading them to join criminal activities. “He expressed concern that banditry has evolved into a lucrative business venture for some individuals, including government officials and security personnel”.

Governor Radda emphasized that banditry poses a significant challenge due to its complex nature, involving multiple leaders and camps spread across forests. “He stressed the difficulty of negotiating with bandits, especially without a position of strength, and reiterated his government’s stance against negotiating from a position of weakness”.
The governor’s remarks shed light on the intricate dynamics of banditry in Nigeria and underscore the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to address the root causes of insecurity in the country.
