Kano medical practitioners defend colleague accused of negligence
Story from Usman UMAR
The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) in Kano State is defending one of its members who was suspended over alleged negligence.
The association criticized a statement issued by the public relations officer of the Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board in Kano as inaccurate and untrue.
In a press statement signed by Dr. Aminu Kabiru Muhd, the association explained that a patient with chronic kidney disease was admitted to Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital and needed emergency dialysis due to serious health issues.
The patient was subsequently referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital as the first facility did not have the necessary resources to handle dialysis for patients with certain conditions.
Highlighting the lack of functional dialysis machines and discrepancies in allowances compared to federal standards and other states, the association called for the withdrawal of the initial statement and a public apology within 48 hours to avoid any disruptions in the medical sector.
Despite challenges with resources and compensation, the NAGGMDP remains dedicated to upholding professional standards and quality healthcare for the people of Kano State.
