Police arrest 6 men for snatching AK-47 rifle from security guard during robbery

Kano State Police Command has arrested six young men for snatching an AK-47 rifle from a security officer while robbing a company.
The six suspects were captured on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the arrest on his Facebook page, said that the suspects were detained shortly after the robbery event.
He identified them as Usman Abdullahi, 26; Mustapha Umar, 25; Nazifi Abdullahi, 30; Isa Abbas, 21; Junaidu Hamisu, 33; and Abdulrazak Aliyu, 22.
According to the police spokesperson, a complaint was made to the police station about an armed theft at a plastic firm where the culprits seized an AK-47 rifle from a security guard on duty.
After the report, officers from the command initiated a search for the suspects and their efforts led to the successful arrest of six members of an armed robbery gang at their hideout while trying to flee the state.

The police spokesperson stated, “During interrogation, the culprits confessed to the crime and the following things were found in their hideout behind Port Container Base, Kano; one smoke pistol with one canister, one pump-action rifle with 17 cartridges.
“Additionally, there was one mini pick-up truck, six machetes, three sharp blades, and other tools for breaking into houses,” he said.
He said the culprits confessed to various instances of armed thefts in the city.
The statement also mentioned that they will be taken to court after the investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department concludes.
