Army, hunters in Yobe state thwart Boko Haram vandalism attempt (Pictures)

A joint operation between the Army and local hunters has successfully thwarted an attempt by suspected Boko Haram insurgents to blow up electricity poles belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) near Kasaisa, a community 10 kilometers from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Sources informed Channels Television that the suspected terrorists, travelling in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number BWR-572 FP Abuja, were intercepted based on intelligence information received by security forces.

One of the hunters, who requested anonymity, stated, “The suspected vandals were blocked from several routes and Allah gave us victory.

They fled, abandoning their vehicles after being confronted by the joint operation. A Toyota Corolla was seized, but the suspected terrorists fled.”

Additional sources revealed that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other components were recovered from the vehicle, which were intended to be used in vandalizing the electricity poles.

The Sector 2, Joint Task Force of Operation Hadin Kai in Damaturu has yet to comment on the incident, which took place on Saturday.

Between December 2023 and March 2024, vandals have destroyed over eight electricity poles belonging to TCN in Borno and Yobe states, causing significant hardship for the residents.
