Ex-Man United star, Patrice Evra dismisses 12-month jail term reports

Former Manchester United star, Patrice Evra, has publicly dismissed reports of a 12-month suspended prison sentence for abandoning his family.

On Friday, July 12, news surfaced that the 43-year-old ex-French national team captain was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, after a French court found him guilty of abandoning his estranged wife, Sandra Evra, and their two children from May 2021 to September 2023. During this period, he allegedly owed €969,000 in unpaid alimony.

In response, Evra took to Instagram, posting a video of himself in handcuffs, adorned with gold chains, in a setting resembling a prison yard.

While jamming to a rap song, he called the reports “rubbish news” and mockingly stated, “Let me shut down this rubbish news: look how much I enjoyed myself in prison.”

Despite the court’s ruling, which includes a suspended sentence and an order to pay €4,000 for moral damages and €2,000 for legal costs, Evra’s social media post clearly rejects the severity of the situation.

Patrice Evra and Sandra married in 2007, with their relationship ending in 2020 after Evra was spotted with Danish model Margaux Alexandra, with whom he has since had two children.
