Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has administered the oath of office to a new cohort of public officials, including two Commissioners, four Permanent Secretaries, and 28 Special Advisers.
The ceremony, saw the swearing-in of Prof. Abba Idris and Alh. Mohammed Mohammed Bara as Commissioners, alongside the State Head of Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, and other appointees.
Addressing the new appointees, Governor Buni emphasised the pivotal role of competence and meritocracy in driving the state’s development agenda. He urged the Commissioners to leverage their experience to innovate and contribute meaningfully to policy formulation and execution.
“We expect you to uphold the highest standards of transparency and prudence in managing public resources for the benefit of our people,” Governor Buni asserted during the ceremony.

Governor Buni also underscored his administration’s commitment to accountability and encouraged the new Special Advisers to engage closely with grassroots communities.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring that government policies and programmes are well understood and embraced across all sectors of society.
Furthermore, Governor Buni pledged ongoing support for capacity building within the civil service to enhance efficiency and service delivery. He stressed the need for a robust workforce capable of meeting the evolving needs of the state.
“We have set a clear agenda aimed at transforming Yobe State across various sectors,” Governor Buni affirmed. “This includes initiatives to bolster economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance social services.”

The swearing-in ceremony also included the confirmation of appointments for key positions within the state’s educational and electoral bodies, marking a comprehensive effort to strengthen institutional frameworks.
As Yobe State charts a course towards sustainable development, Governor Buni reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering inclusive governance and urged all newly appointed officials to prioritise the welfare and progress of the people above all else.
