Story from Jane AISO, Abuja

The Rotary Club Abuja Urban recently provided essential items to support the well-being of children and expectant/nursing mothers in Gasaki/Cheta communities of the Federal Capital Territory during its maternal and child months activities.

This distribution initiative took place in the rural community of Gasaki/Cheta in Karshi under the Abuja Municipal Council (AMAC), which is the adopted community of the Rotary Club Abuja Urban.

The community has benefited from two projects aimed at improving the well-being of rural residents.

Dr Lovina Okorn-Ntui, the Rotary District Chairperson for maternal and child health, emphasized the importance of providing proper care to pregnant and nursing mothers.

She highlighted the significance of preventing and managing malaria through medication and sleeping under mosquito-treated nets.

Furthermore, there was an emphasis on the role of fathers in supporting their pregnant wives by encouraging them to use medical facilities for delivery instead of traditional home delivery methods.

Dr. Rabi Mohammed, the President of the Rotary Club Abuja Urban, also discussed the importance of safety measures during pregnancy and childbirth.

A member of the medical team demonstrated the use of a mama kit containing essential delivery items and stressed the importance of caring for both mothers and babies.

The distribution event attracted a significant number of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children who were eager to receive medical attention.

The medical team, led by Dr Aminat Zakari, was actively involved in this commendable initiative.

Mrs. Mohammed assured that more projects are in the pipeline because Rotary is known for offering voluntary services to humanity that bring about lasting change and impact the community.
