Woman, 7-year-old daughter perish in gas explosion at home

A 40-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter have tragically died after they were trapped in a gas explosion at Ebute Road, Ibafo area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Police authorities in the state identified the deceased mother as 40-year-old Rafiat Sheriff.

The spokesperson of the command, Omolola Odutola, said Rafiat had instructed her daughter to cook their dinner when the incident occurred.

Police said the incident occurred Sunday night, 7th July 2024, when the mother told her 7-year-old daughter to cook.

“The girl was attempting to light up the gas cylinder when the entire house went up in flames,” the police said on Sunday.

“The mother and the child lost their lives in the explosion. Two other girls, including one of the children of the deceased, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” the police revealed.
