Court restrains EFCC, police from arresting Kano Chief of Staff

Story from Aliyu Askira, Kano

A Kano State High Court, led by Justice Aisha Yau, has issued an injunction against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police, preventing them from arresting or detaining Shehu Wada Sagagi, the Chief of Staff to the Kano State Governor. The court order also prohibits the EFCC and police from harassing, intimidating, or molesting Sagagi until the motion on notice is resolved.

This ruling comes in response to a case filed by Sagagi, who has sought protection against the EFCC, the Northern Arewa Merger Group APC, Honourable Musa Mujahid Zaitawa, and the Kano State Commissioner of Police. The case involves allegations of the diversion of federal government palliatives.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 3rd, when it will review the motion on notice. The Northern Youth Merger Group, affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), had petitioned the EFCC to investigate the alleged misappropriation of federal palliatives. Sagagi, however, has strongly denied these allegations.
