FCCPC shuts down Abuja water factory over expired products
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has shut down the Fabsi Table Water factory located in Kubwa, Abuja, due to severe violations of consumer protection regulations.
The decision follows complaints from consumers who reported consuming expired sachet water contaminated with microbes.
An investigation by the FCCPC revealed that Fabsi Table Water failed to include essential product information such as production dates, expiration dates, and batch numbers on its packaging. The factory’s claim of a two-month shelf life for its products was deemed unverifiable due to the lack of proper labeling.

The company attributed the omission of this critical information to printing issues, which the FCCPC has rejected as inadequate. Accurate product labeling is a mandatory requirement under current regulations.
As a result of these violations, the FCCPC has temporarily suspended the factory’s operations and summoned the management for further investigation. The commission’s actions aim to ensure that consumer safety and product quality are upheld.
