Iranian-made Sevom Khordad road-mobile long-range high-altitude defense missile system prepare against Israel, US attack

The Iranian military is prepared to deploy their latest air defense systems, including the 9-Dey, a new type of surface-to-air missile that shares the same chassis as the Iranian-made Sevom Khordad road-mobile long-range high-altitude defense missile system.

Equipped with a new missile launcher capable of firing two blocks of four containerised missiles, the 9-Dey is set to be deployed in response to increasing tensions between Iran and Israel.

The 9-Dey is an advanced Iranian air defense missile system designed to intercept and eliminate various aerial threats, such as fighter jets, drones, and cruise missiles, with a range of 5 to 30 km and an altitude of up to 20 km.

The unveiling of this system on May 21, 2021, marked a significant development in Iran’s efforts to modernize its military forces.

During an exercise called “Defenders of the Sky of Velayat 2023,” held from November 5 to November 7, 2023, the 9-Dey system successfully demonstrated its combat capabilities by intercepting and destroying multiple targets.

Its radar systems can detect and engage multiple threats simultaneously, providing early warning and interception capabilities.

Integrated with existing defense systems like the Khordad-15, the 9-Dey enhances Iran’s overall air defense network.

One notable feature of the 9-Dey is its unique missile launcher configuration, which includes two blocks of four containerised missiles, totaling eight missiles ready for deployment.

The system also integrates an S-band detection radar at the front of the missile weapon station, improving target acquisition and engagement capabilities.

The 9-Dey system utilises the same radar technology as the Sevom Khordad, mounted at the front of the vehicle for target detection and tracking.

This radar, operating in the 2 to 4 GHz frequency range, offers a detection range of up to 150 kilometers and can track multiple targets simultaneously.

Combined with its phased array technology, the radar enhances the system’s effectiveness in engaging targets at various ranges and altitudes.

With a chassis based on the MZKT-6922 used in the Russian Buk-M2E missile system, the 9-Dey system emphasises modularity and mobility, enabling rapid deployment and operation across different terrains.

The Iranian adaptation of this chassis features modifications such as a front-mounted engine and additional hydraulic jacks for enhanced stability during firing, showcasing improved off-road capabilities.
