No survivors as plane with 62 aboard crashes in Brazil
An airplane carrying 58 passengers and four crew members crashes in Brazil, killing everyone on board, local officials confirm.
The French-made ATR 72-500, operated by Voepass, was en route from Cascavel to São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport when it went down in the city of Vinhedo. Local media broadcasts show dramatic images of the plane nosediving at high speed and a large column of smoke rising from the crash site, which appeared to be in a residential area.
“There were no survivors,” stated the city government of Valinhos, which assisted with the rescue and recovery efforts. The crash occurred approximately 80 kilometers northwest of São Paulo, a city with around 76,000 residents.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, speaking during an event in Itajaí, Santa Catarina state, confirmed that the crash involved 58 passengers and four crew members, and it seemed there were no survivors.

Voepass reported an accident involving flight 2283 but has not yet confirmed the cause of the crash. São Paulo’s fire department noted that seven teams were involved in the response and provided limited details.
Nathalie Cicari, a resident near the crash site, described the impact as “terrifying,” noting a loud noise followed by seeing the plane spinning. Although she was not injured, Cicari had to evacuate her home due to black smoke.
Emergency services, including firefighters, military police, and state civil defense, have been deployed to the Capela neighborhood in Vinhedo. The plane, which first flew in April 2010, was previously reported on the aviation site planespotters.net.
Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
