Police did not raid NLC secretariat, Force spokesman clarifies

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that it did not raid the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat, countering recent claims. On August 9, 2024, Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi issued a statement explaining that the police operation, which took place in the Centre Business District of Abuja, was not intended to target the NLC but rather to apprehend a suspect involved in criminal activities.

According to Adejobi, the operation was carried out with legal authority at a location within the NLC building, which coincidentally housed a rented shop used by the suspect. The operation was solely focused on the criminal activities of the foreign national implicated in multiple crimes across Nigeria and other African countries.

The police emphasized that the NLC Secretariat, its staff, and leadership were not the targets of the operation. They described the raid as a well-coordinated and lawful action aimed at addressing significant security threats posed by the suspect.

The NPF reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining professionalism in all operations. They also called for cooperation from the NLC and encouraged vigilance in monitoring rental spaces to prevent misuse of criminal activities.
