Buhari rejected Tinubu as president, never trusted Osinbajo – Lamido

Sule Lamido, former Governor of Jigawa State, made some revelations regarding former President Muhammadu Buhari’s stance on the succession plans within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Lamido, Buhari never wanted President Bola Tinubu to succeed him as President of Nigeria.

He also mentioned that Buhari did not trust his former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and instead favored ex-Senate President Ahmed Lawan to succeed him.

Lamido highlighted how Tinubu, despite Buhari’s disapproval, emerged as a prominent figure in the APC.

He described Tinubu as a daring and self-made man who owed his victory to nobody.

He noted that Tinubu’s emergence as a key player in the party was not supported by Buhari, who had his own preferences for succession.

Prior to the 2015 presidential election, there were rumors that Buhari was against Tinubu becoming the APC candidate.

Some officials within Buhari’s administration allegedly attempted to sabotage Tinubu’s chances by causing artificial fuel scarcity and proposing a redesign of the naira.

Despite these challenges, Tinubu persisted and declared “Emi Lokan,” asserting that it was his turn to lead.

Despite Buhari’s reluctance and lack of support, Tinubu managed to emerge as a significant figure within the APC, defying the odds and asserting his influence within the party.

Overall, Sule Lamido’s statements shed light on the internal dynamics and power struggles within the APC, particularly regarding succession plans and the influence of key figures like Buhari and Tinubu.
