NAFDAC orders emergency recall of Dove Beauty cream bar soap
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a recall due to the detection of a chemical impurity, Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), also known as Lilial, in the product.
The agency noted that this chemical has been prohibited in cosmetics because of significant health risks, including potential damage to the reproductive system and negative effects on unborn children.
Moreover, BMHCA is associated with skin sensitization, which can trigger allergic reactions in some users.

NAFDAC stated that the product violates the Cosmetic Products Regulation and has been banned due to its associated risks. Several regulatory authorities in the European Union (EU) have already prohibited its marketing.

– Go Fresh Revitalize Nourishing Shower Gel
– Caring Hand Wash
– Invisible Dry
NAFDAC has urged the public to be cautious and vigilant within the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and use of these products. The agency also reminded the public that the importation of soaps is prohibited in Nigeria and that these products are not listed in the NAFDAC database. NAFDAC stated: “Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office, via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, E-reporting platforms available at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or through the Med-Safety application available for download on Android and iOS stores.”
