Tinubu appoints Tegbe as DG Global Liaison for Nigeria-China strategic partnership
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China strategic partnership established during his visit to China earlier this month. The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
In his new role, Tegbe will oversee daily operations and maintain ongoing communication with Chinese counterparts to ensure that all deliverables align with Nigeria’s national development goals. His responsibilities include outlining specific deliverables, timelines, and key performance indicators for cooperation in priority projects, anticipated investments, and socio-economic outcomes.

This appointment comes in the wake of significant commitments made by President Xi Jinping at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where he pledged 360 billion Yuan (approximately $51 billion) in new financing for African nations over the next three years. The Chinese president also committed to supporting 30 infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity across Africa and creating one million jobs.
As part of his immediate tasks, Tegbe will submit a strategic action plan to maximise Nigeria’s benefits from the agreements reached during the discussions in Beijing. With a first-class degree in civil engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University and a distinguished career in financial advisory services at KPMG Africa, Tegbe brings extensive expertise to this critical role. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
Tegbe will report directly to President Tinubu, ensuring effective communication and alignment of goals between Nigeria and China.
