The Ministry of Water Resources along with RUWASA and Yobe State Water Corporation are charged with the responsibility of the overall formulation of policies, coordination of water resources development and utilisation in the state with water corporation focusing in urban while RUWASA deals with rural areas.

The Ministry of Water Resources piloted by a member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Engr. Uman Maraya fnse has been working hand-in-hand with the General Manager of the Water Corporation and also a registered engineer, Engr. Mahdi Baba Zarma as well as the General Manager of RUWASA, Abubakar Liman Baba, also a seasoned water expert towards implementing Governor Buni’s vision towards providing portable drinking water for both human and animal consumption across the state.

The harmonious working relationship between the trio became visible when governor Buni narrates the achievements of his administration during the 2024 end-of-year press briefing organised by the office of the Hon Commissioner Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture Hon Abdullahi Bego at the Cedars Recreation Centre on the 19 December, 2024 in Damaturu.

The governor represented by his Deputy Hon Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) said the provision of portable drinking water has been one of the major focused of his administration for a healthy society.

Buni said, “Another critical area we have focused attention on, is in the area of water supply.

“The state government has awarded a contract for the conversion of 170 motorized boreholes at the ratio of 10 per Local Government to the solar system in order to ensure steady water supply to our teeming populace in the State.

“Others are the drilling of a complete package borehole at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) Damaturu, Shagari Low-Cost, Yobe State Women and Children Hospital and the GRA area in Damaturu, rehabilitated the Dumar-Gumsi Water Project, broken down boreholes, continued with the construction of the Buni-Gari Water Treatment Plant, continued with the servicing and maintenance of 351 boreholes across major towns in the state, and drilled replacement boreholes in many estates across Damaturu metropolis,” the governor revealed.

To effectively address the challenges of bedeviling the water sector and improve supply in the state, a triparite programme for water development involving the Federal, State and Local Governments have been in existing geared towards providing a large water supply system in Damaturu called regional water supply project.

By and large, the spectacular programmes for the provision of water embarked upon by the administration of Governor Buni and being religiously implemented by the kinetic, energetic, workaholic, and enterprising Commissioner of Water Resources, Engr.
