2026 World Cup: Pinnick confident of Nigeria’s qualification

Amaju Pinnick, former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), remains optimistic about the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, despite acknowledging the tough road ahead for the 2013 African champions.

The Super Eagles, who missed out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, currently sit fifth in Group C of the qualification race, four points behind leaders Rwanda after four rounds of matches.

However, Pinnick, who is also a member of the FIFA Executive Committee, expressed confidence that Nigeria could still secure a spot in the USA, Mexico, and Canada next year. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sports Tonight, he stated, “We believe we would still qualify by God’s grace.”

He further emphasized that the NFF, under the leadership of its president, is deeply committed to qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup, despite the challenges ahead. Pinnick added, “It is going to be a tough call. I don’t want to raise the hopes of any Nigerian that we would qualify. But we would try our human extreme… on a scale of 1-10, we would get to that 10 and see if we can make it happen.”

Pinnick also urged Nigerians to support the NFF, which he believes is working tirelessly to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians. He revealed that the NFF will soon announce a new, dynamic coach for the Super Eagles.

“Any moment from now, I am sure they would be announcing a coach, an enterprising coach at that,” he concluded.
