2027: Amupitan seeks voter register clean-up to remove deceased names

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Babatunde Amupitan, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to embark on a comprehensive clean-up of the national voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan, who made the appeal during an interview, said removing the names of deceased persons and other invalid entries was essential to strengthening the integrity of the electoral process. He warned that allowing outdated records to remain in the register could undermine credibility and provide room for manipulation.

He urged INEC to work closely with the National Population Commission, local authorities, and community leaders to verify deaths and update records accordingly. Amupitan also encouraged political parties and civil society organisations to support efforts aimed at sanitising the voter database.
According to him, a credible, transparent, and accurate voter register is fundamental to ensuring free and fair elections in 2027.
