Gunmen abduct six family members in fresh Adamawa attack

Suspected terrorists have kidnapped six members of the same family during a late-night attack in Adamawa State, deepening fears over worsening insecurity in the region.

The abduction reportedly occurred in a rural community when the assailants, said to be heavily armed, stormed the family’s home under the cover of darkness. Witnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, fired sporadic shots to scare residents, and forcefully took away six family members, including women and children.

Residents told journalists that the gunmen operated unhindered for several minutes before fleeing into nearby bushes, believed to be part of known criminal hideouts in the area. The identities of the victims were not immediately released, but community sources confirmed they all belong to the same household.

Following the incident, local leaders raised the alarm, prompting security agencies to launch a search-and-rescue operation. Security operatives are said to be combing surrounding forests and tracking possible escape routes used by the kidnappers.

The attack has thrown the community into panic, with many residents expressing fear of further assaults. Some families have reportedly begun relocating to safer areas, while others are calling on the government to deploy more security personnel to protect lives and property.

Adamawa State has in recent years witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups, including kidnappings for ransom, despite ongoing military and security operations. Residents say the latest incident underscores the urgent need for sustained security presence and improved intelligence gathering to curb criminal activities.
