38-year-old busted for hacking, moving N1.8 billion from Nigerian bank

A 38-year-old Salau Abdulmalik Femi has been arrested by detectives from the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigerian Police for hacking into a Nigerian bank’s server and moved N1.87 billion.

According to reports, the suspect is the kingpin of a syndicate that specializes in hacking into the servers of banks and corporate agencies in the country.

Consequently, he was arrested after he successfully hacked the Flex-Cube Universal Banking System (FCUBS) of a generation bank.

Disclosing this on Thursday in Ikoyi, Lagos was the spokesperson of the Fraud Unit, DSP Eyitayo Johnson, said the suspect, using application software, created fictitious credit totalling N1.87 billion on the accounts of three of the bank’s customers.

DSP Johnson added that the suspect successfully cleared debit (outflows) amounting to N417.5 million through internet banking transfers to other banks.

He further added that the unit, while acting swiftly on a petition from the bank contacted the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the deposit money banks which customers were beneficiaries of the fraudulent funds and in that process were able to recover a substantial amount.

“Items recovered were an Apple laptop and iPhone, he and operators of Bureau De Change (BDC) used to launder the monies will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded,” he said.
