Story from Haruna Usman, Birnin Kebbi

Barely a week after the minister of humanitarian affairs, Hajiya Sadiyya Umar Faruk, inagurated the federal government’s cash grants to rural vulnerable women in Kebbi, over five thousand five hundred women (5,500) have successfully received the approved amount.

The State Coordinator Barrister Aminu Shamaki, explained that the program is part of the federal government social interventions aimed at reducing poverty in the country and to mitigate the harsh economic atmosphere caused by covid19 globally.

According to him, women forms a larger part of the population and are more exposed to poverty hence the choice of only women as the beneficiaries particularly those from the rural areas.

Shamaki added that no NGO or association is collaborating with them saying its solely a federal government program denying allegations of placing others above some in the disbursements process.

“I resisted pressure from highly place persons in Kebbi to influence me by smuggling list in to compromise, we will not attend to any list away from the original list he said”.
